2020 will go down as one of the most provocative years in modern history, as our country wrestled with the ugliness of the past, the frustrations of the present, and renewed hope for the future. Personally, February 2021 marks a particularly meaningful Black History Month. As a Black woman, I am energized by the evolution of change and resolve toward tackling racial inequity that paralyzes communities and oppresses individuals. As a professional, the bloom of consciousness and inclusive business practices are super encouraging. Wintrust has had a longstanding commitment for making communities more equitable places to live, work, and do business, and 2020 ignited a renewed sense of urgency to be a force for good. This Black History Month, we’re proud to partner with the people and organizations that are walking the talk and making a difference in Black communities in Chicagoland, Wisconsin, and northwest Indiana.

When we started Wintrust 30 years ago, it was with a commitment to ensuring people didn’t feel left out: That they were seen, heard, and respected as valued individuals and customers to be served, regardless of their background. As Chicago’s Bank® and Wisconsin’s Bank®, we stand by that mission today. Black History Month encourages us to pause, acknowledge the past, and strengthen our commitment to supporting and investing in the Black community, well beyond the month of February. At Wintrust, we have a unique accomplishment to highlight. We’re extremely proud to have 10 African American business leaders serving on boards of directors across our community banks and lines of business. I thank them for their invaluable service. Let’s keep working together to eradicate racial inequity and lift communities. Happy Black History Month to our customers, partners, communities, and team members.

Partner Highlight: Chicago Urban League

Our partnership with the Chicago Urban League has grown since 2012. The nonprofit’s work—focused on helping people find jobs, secure affordable housing, enhance education, and grow businesses—aligns well with Wintrust’s holistic approach to supporting our local area. This year, our partnership will expand further to provide even more opportunities to the African American community.

Our partners making a difference

For decades we’ve partnered with organizations through programming and financial support to impact Black communities across our footprint. It’s one way we ensure we’re helping to build up a network of support in our area. Here are just some of our nonprofit partners, among many others, we work with:
